It Was Never About the Jeans
Have you ever worn a pair of jeans so long that they actually came back into style?
I have.
No one has ever accused me of being stylish.
I am completely fine with that. And yet, I hired a style coach recently.
I didn’t hire a stylist to drastically change my look.
Who knows. That may happen.
I hired her because I was tired of opening my closet and hating everything in it. Tired of feeling like all my clothes are past their prime. And tired of panic shopping for the next event.
For years, I have had this vague goal of “updating my wardrobe.”
Years go by. I don’t make a plan and I avoid shopping because I seriously dislike it. So I keep wearing the same cutoff shorts from my twenties and the sweaters that were gifted to me that I never really loved in the first place.
Then I met Cat at an event in town.
Cat’s a stylist who, among other things, helps people shop and figure out what actually looks good on their body. I was not looking for her. But the second she described what she does, I knew I wanted her help.
We went on our first shopping trip together at a local thrift store last weekend, and for the first time since back-to-school shopping with my mom, I did not dread going to a store.
The difference was simple.
I was not alone in the chaos.
I had someone in my corner who knew what they were doing. Someone to make it more fun. Someone to lead the way.
I left the store, not only with new pieces to update my closet, but with a sense of relief. Relief that I had the right support in place to actually keep this promise to myself this year.
That relief, that ease, is what I want for you too. For whatever your version of “new wardrobe is” you’re wanting but not moving towards.
Because I know what it is like to want something to change. To think about it all the time. To quietly beat yourself up for not having figured it out yet.
You might be someone who loves shopping and has no trouble putting together an outfit that feels great.
But I would bet there is something else you are white knuckling your way through.
You may be feeling a bit lost or lonely as retirement approaches and looking for your next purpose.
You may know your people-pleasing habit is grinding you down but keep pretending it’s fine.
You may know something needs to change but feel frozen about where to even start.
This is my invitation to you to get support.
Not because you can’t figure out alone.
But because doing it with support in your corner is an entirely different experience.
As a coach, my job is to help you understand why you keep hitting the same wall—and to help you find a way forward that doesn’t require forcing yourself through it with sheer willpower. Just support, strategy, and a lot of laughs along the way.
My closet is slowly becoming a place that doesn’t stress me out because I have Cat in my corner helping me stay accountable and enjoy the process.
What could change for you if you leaned into support too?
If you know the support you need - go get it!
If my support may be what you’ve been waiting for - Let’s talk. Book a call to chat. It’s way easier than waiting another 15 years for things to come back in style.
XO,
Still flip flop lovin’ Missy
