That dress again? 👗
You know that moment when you're rifling through your closet and your eyes land on that dress? Tags still on. It was a great deal. Every time you consider wearing it... it just never feels like the right moment.
So you tell yourself, If I don’t wear it in the next two weeks, I’ll donate it.
Two weeks go by. Still hanging there. Maybe it’ll be perfect for that concert next month. So you delay again.
Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
I caught myself in this cycle recently. And hey—when it’s just a dress, it’s not the end of the world. But let's think about what’s really happening here.
Seriously, no judgment. This email is fully inspired by my closet and a dress I wore once that I keep negotiating with, although it's likely to never be worn by this girl again. But it's cute! (It’s the one pictured here!)
We think we’ve made a decision. But we haven’t actually committed to it. So every time we see the dress, we leave the door open for another mental negotiation.
It’s exhausting. Constantly redeciding the same thing over and over again.
So here’s what I’m doing: I’m taking that dress to a local consignment shop by the end of this week.
I'm committing to the decision.
What about you?
I know it’s tricky. Money was spent, and there might still be the perfect occasion coming. But you know what’s harder than thinking about the money? The endless mental loop:
Will I wear it? Should I return it? Maybe it’ll be perfect for that event in the fall…
Being a strong decision-maker is a game changer.
Having the habit of following through on the decisions you make? That’s where the magic happens.
So let’s do it. Let’s commit to the decision and get rid of the dang dresses this week, OK?
The dress is just the beginning. What else could change if you stopped re-deciding the things you’ve already decided?
Stay curious,
Missy
